Questions/Follow-up Kant & Marx

What questions do you still have about Marx or Kant?  Did we run out of time before you got to make your point?  Is there something you agree or disagree with that you didn't get to say in class?

  1. When it comes to Marx I just think people have such a negative view of him because of what happened in the Soviet Union. A lot of people think that he was the reason that all happened and the truth is his view was not taken the right way in that situation. I know before coming to college that is what I had thought. Being a sociology major you learn a lot about Marx and come to realize his view of communism is not bad. In an ideal world it would work but it seems that it is unreachable. This is because you would have to change everyone's view point and make everyone think the exact same things but that is not possible. There will always be someone who doesn't think the same.

    1. I agree that people have such a negative view of him. People sometimes take things completely out of context in regards to what people say. I think yes in an ideal world his ideals would indeed work, but this is not realistic with everyone being set in their own beliefs and values. There however are some that can other wise be convinced.

  2. I Think the key problem in reaching the "ideal" world under Marx's view is that there is always going to be those with power, and that power will corrupt them. Which is what we saw in Soviet Russia.

  3. I feel that Marx wanted to create an "Utopia" and this would come with the rise of communism when everyone is equal and has equal rights. But it would never work because in the world we live in, people want freedom, and want to decide their own life, and how to live it. So no matter where you try and force communism it will never work because of people resisting it.

    1. Josh makes a very good point in regards to Marx wanting to create a utopia. I agree that everyone is equal and has equal rights. This however is extremely unlikely due to the fact that those who have a higher social status which grants them more power causing more inequality between societal classes. Another excellent point even though his ideals were well meant it could never work free will and freedom simply wont allow it. In today's society we decide what we can and cannot do as long as it abides within the laws society has set up for us in order to maintain peace and prosperity.
