Philosophy in the World

What experiences in your life are hard to reconcile with our course material?  (Be specific in identifying the material).  Why is it hard?  What else could you do to square your thinking/philosophizing and your lived experience?

More Philosophy?  Would you take an additional philosophy course if money/time weren’t factors?  Explain.

  1. I, obviously, have a bias here as a Philosophy major. But, I think everyone should be exposed to more philosophical thinking. Yes, it can be hard at first. It requires really dissecting your thoughts and nailing down acceptable terms/definitions. The hardest part may be realizing that thoughts you've held as absolute truth actually contradict one another. Reconciling those will be tough. But, what you end up with is very satisfying. It becomes easier to approach ideas different to your own and assess them based on their merit. It's the process by which we'll ultimately understand one another and be able to hold ourselves personally accountable for our actions. If you can't defend your irrational behavior, how would you expect someone else to?
